This artwork seeks to illustrate the sorrowful plight of African elephants, whose existence has become increasingly fragile due to the rampant poaching of ivory-seeking poachers. A recent study estimated that in a three year period alone, 100,000 of these majestic creatures were killed. Growing up in South Africa and spending prolonged periods in the bush veld allowed me to truly appreciate and connect with these animals on a personal level, something which is difficult to express in words. This piece seeks to capture the essence and beauty of these animals, while also paying homage to their increasingly threatened existence.
