Jonty Hurwitz's sculpture is inspired by his early childhood experiences with the animal kingdom and his years spent with horses on the narrow bridle path near his home in the English countryside. It serves as a meditation on freedom by symbolising the suppressed inner nature of domesticated animals. Through this creative work of art, Hurwitz captures the wild spirit of horses, while simultaneously highlighting the irony of a world where they are largely 'owned'. The sculpture honours the idea that horses, and other domesticated creatures, possess an in-built understanding of independence, freedom and self-sufficiency in spite of the disconnection of modern civilisation from nature.
